Unicode error on smart folders with german translations

Description

When you try to view a smart folder when logged in and the language is set to german, then an unicode error is thrown. I couldn't track down the cause for this. This happens in 2.5 r10436.

(In [10439]) Circumvented a UnicodeDecodeError on smart folders editing view. This closes #5746.
