Events marked up as vCard instead of vEvent

Reported by: mrtopf Owned by: limi

Description

It is nice to support microformats but in Plone events seem to be marked as vCards instead of vEvents. This should be changed in a way that tools for microformats such as Operator for Firefox also understand these.

Can you explain what changed in a way that tools for microformats such as Operator for Firefox also understand these means?

  • Cc limi added

well, there is a standard called hCalendar which defines how to markup events in HTML source code. Operator (a firefox extension) scans pages for that and allows you to e.g. add the events it finds to your google/Yahoo calendar (among other things). Or eventful.com can actually scan websites automatically for such markup and add events from it.

The same is true for a standard called hCard which is the same just for contact data.

In Plone an event seems to be marked as hCard as it looks.. (the convention is to use class names like vcard).

Then again I wonder if it's not just by accident the same name used here and just a normal CSS class. If it is the case then please think of this bug as a feature request (which I could implement quickly in a branch). Having microformat support is quite easy to accomplish and gets us more love in the scene.

We might also want to rename classes such as vcard to something else to reduce confusion. So here limi might need to get into the loop. AFAIK it only applies to this class and I guess it's not used too much in Plone.

the microformats website can be found at  http://microformats.org and the hCalendar docs at  http://microformats.org/wiki/hcalendar

  • Owner changed from alecm to limi

CSS and micro-formats are limi-space :)

The event_view has both the 'vevent' class and an inner 'vcard' for the person organizing the event.

This has worked fine in Plone 2.5 (I added it based on a patch from Nate) but is apparently broken in 3.0 :(

  • Status changed from new to closed
  • Resolution set to fixed

(In [21606]) - Overhauled the hCard/hCalendar support on the Events page, this fixes #6888 and #6889, refs #6333 and #6708 [limi]:

  • Fixed hCard syntax to be able to include email address.

  • Fixed spamProtect.py script to be able to accept optional arguments for HTML classes/ids and render them in the returned tag.

  • Inserted the fn/url classes on the mailto link now that it is supported.

  • Made the name render with a mailto link now that spamProtect supports it (it already supported this for a while, we just never used it).

  • dtstart/dtend classes were being overwritten by KSS class definitions, so the hCalendar event tags were never rendered, breaking the hCalendar support. Fixed.
  • When there is no fullname, show email address. This would turn out blank earlier. Fixed.

  • The date *has* to be supplied inside an abbr tag for most parsers. Fixed.
